Diane Lane Reveals Advice She Would Give Her Younger Self (Exclusive)

Publish date: 2024-06-30

Who would pass up a chance to give their younger self some expert advice? Not Diane Lane, that’s for sure. When the actress walked the red carpet with her costars Anne Hathaway and Matthew McConaughey at the Serenity premiere in New York City on Wednesday, January 23, the actress revealed the wise words she’d tell her 20-year-old self today.

After gushing that she was “thrilled” to star in such an “emotional” movie like Serenity for her latest acting project, Diane — who just turned 54 years old on January 22 — exclusively told Closer Weekly that she would tell her younger self to simply “wear it lightly.” Based on her answer, we’re guessing Diana is able to live life now without taking things too seriously!

After nearly 50 years in showbiz, Diane has reached mega-success as an actress but her love life hasn’t always been as blissful. Though she divorced first husband Christopher Lambert in 1994 and second husband Josh Brolin in 2013, the Under the Tuscan Sun star revealed in a past interview that she hasn’t given up on love.

“To be honest, relationships with the opposite sex are the most challenging things I’ve done. You lose your compass, gravity changes, you don’t know what’s up or down, you’re trying to figure it out. You’re trying to make everybody happy, including yourself, and it’s just … it’s humbled me,” she once told More magazine. “Sure, I’d like a relationship again, but I’m loving the solitude as well.”

Funnily enough, when Diane worked with Matthew on Serenity, the actor confessed to his costar that he’d always had a crush on her! “I said, ‘Do you know how long I’ve had a crush on you, Diane? Since [she starred in] Lonesome Dove.‘” I told her straight up!” Matthew recently confessed to Entertainment Tonight. “[She’s] fun and cool — and she’s a great actress.”
